The donation, which includes furniture for four newly constructed classrooms, has breathed life into a school building that had stood unused for over seven months. According to Mr Gaye, Chairman of the Sanyang Village Development Committee, the contribution has not only furnished the school but also catalysed its operational launch, enabling enrolment to begin and learning to flourish.
“The school was built, but it remained empty. GACH’s intervention changed everything,” Mr Gaye remarked. “While the community constructed the furniture, it was GACH that provided the essential funding. Their support has been unwavering.”
The Fulakunku Arabic School now serves as a safe haven for children who previously had to cross dangerous highways to access distant Islamic schools. Adama Saidy, a representative of the school, expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the facility now offers both safety and quality education rooted in Islamic values.
At the heart of this initiative is Dr Abubakary Jawara, Chief Executive Officer of GACH Global Group, whose philanthropic footprint continues to shape lives across The Gambia. Speaking at the handover, Dr Jawara reaffirmed his commitment to supporting communities in need, particularly in areas where his company operates.
“Arabic education is essential for instilling Islamic values and understanding one’s faith,” Dr Jawara stated. “Strong Islamic schools are not optional, they are vital. That’s why we acted swiftly to support Fulakunku.”
Dr Jawara’s benevolence is well documented. Over the years, he has emerged as one of the country’s most prominent humanitarian figures, consistently responding to the needs of Gambians facing hardship. From health and education to agriculture and youth empowerment, his contributions span multiple sectors, always with a focus on uplifting communities and fostering sustainable development.
Whether through direct donations, infrastructure support, or strategic partnerships, GACH’s corporate social responsibility model reflects a deep-rooted philosophy of giving back. In Sanyang and beyond, the company has become synonymous with progress, compassion, and impact.
As the desks and chairs find their place in the classrooms of Fulakunku, they symbolise more than just furniture, they represent opportunity, dignity, and a brighter future for the next generation.
