
The cash is meant to support the youth ‘Nawettan’ (wet football tourney) at Sare Nfally village.
Mr. Darboe also took the opportunity to donate some football jerseys to the community.
The donation was part of the foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility - to support the poor and needy across the country. The donation was also part of a promise Mr. Darboe made during a recent visit to the village where he was adopted honourary father by the people of Sare Nfally.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at Sare Nfally village, Alkalo Muhamedou Leigh hailed the donor Mr. Turo Darboe for his benevolent gesture to the community especially in supporting the completion of the village’s mosque and the women.
He lauded the donation of solar lights, saying the village had never benefited from such a development.
“Today, with the support of our Gambian leading philanthropist Mr. Modou Turo Darboe, our village is blessed to have such a social amenity. We must acknowledge and appreciate Mr. Turo Darboe’s support in addressing the plight of the rural communities,” he said.
Mr. Leigh also promised that the donated items will be put into good use and maintained.
Also speaking was the youth coordinator at Sare Nfally village, Suso Cham, who expressed similar sentiment while applauding Mr. Darboe for the support.
According to him, the support was long overdue, considering “we are in the rainy season, and this village needs to have such facilities to avoid wildlife animals from intruding. We are proud to receive such a donation from Modou Turo Darboe.”
He highlighted numerous interventions and support that Mr. Darboe has been rendering to different communities.
Speaking on behalf of elders, Mr. Sira Jallow thanked Mr. Modou Turo Darboe and his team for their timely intervention.
He described Mr. Turo Darboe as a patriotic citizen who he said has no-boundary in supporting humanity. Mr. Jallow promised that the people of Sare Nfally and its surroundings would continue to rally behind Mr Darboe.
VDF CEO Modou Turo Darboe returned gratitude and appreciation to the community of Sare Nfally for the “warm welcome” accorded to him.
He hinted that the crowd that welcomed him shows that there is unity within their communities. Mr. Darboe challenged them to foster unity, cooperation and work together as one family. He asserted that unity is the only way to help “us to develop this country.”
He spoke on the need in particular to forget about tribalism and come together to build the nation. He promised to support and build the foundation of the youths.
Mr. Darboe also urged the youths to always preach unity and fight tribalism in our societies.
