Salama, 41, explained and relayed a purported incident between Kan Mustapha Kanyi, alias Kanjura Kanyi, and herself.
She recalled that Kanjura Kanyi brought papers, requesting a refund of over one hundred thousand dalasis for works he allegedly pre-financed at the Old Jeshwang Market.
She declined to approve the request because she was not involved and it was not proper because the Council could do some of the jobs he claimed to have outsourced.
She said that after refusing to give him money, Kanjura then vowed to her that he would ensure that she was never confirmed as the CEO.
She said she reported Kanjura Kanyi to the Mayor Talib Bensouda, but he repeated the same threats in the presence of the Mayor. She testified that Kanjura Kanyi was untouchable and the mayor had a “soft spot” for him.
At a certain juncture, Madam Njie also narrated another incident. She said while in China she was informed that her secretary was redeployed and the Council had imposed a secretary on her.
She explained that Councillor Habib Ceesay confronted her inside her office on allegations that she did not want to work with the new secretary assigned to her, which she refused.
During the conversation, she stated that Habib Ceesay brought up the issue of Kanjura Kanyi, saying she was sabotaging the Council’s efforts.
She then asked Habib why he fused two unrelated issues. She explained that she reported the matter to the mayor, but he informed her that it was a Council decision which should be respected.
She then reminded the mayor of the first thing he did after his election to the KMC, which was giving instructions for all the support staff of his office to be redeployed.
She stated that as the CEO, she expected to have a secretary she is comfortable working with. She testified that after observing the hostility often directed towards her, she consulted her husband and later decided to retire based on marital grounds.
