Police secure conviction for alleged computer-related extortion

The Police in Basse have successfully prosecuted 26-year-old Senegalese national Alhagie Babucarr Gaye for computer-related extortion, fraud, and forgery.

The case was brought before Magistrate Peter Che at the Basse Magistrate Court on June 25, 2024. The defendant pleaded guilty to all charges.

On August 7, 2024, Gaye was sentenced to five years in prison with hard labour. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a compensation of D59,000.00; failure to pay will result in an additional two years of imprisonment. The sentences are to run consecutively.

The Gambia Police Force remains dedicated to combating all forms of crimes, with a particular focus on scamming and related offences.
