His Excellency Mr. ARAI Tatsuo, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of The Gambia attended the inauguration ceremony of the project Cancer Confrontation Care and Consolation of The Gambia (C3G) yesterday October 21st, 2021 at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.

The project was implemented within the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security projects funded by the government of Japan. It is designed to support community based initiatives addressing various development issues. Through this programme, Japanese government aims to participate in the socio-economic development of developingcountries.                                                   The project Cancer Confrontation Care and Consolation of The Gambia (C3G) received the amount of 48,258 euros, which is equivalent to approximately 3 million dalasis, for the purchase of medical equipment such as coagulation therapy machines, a full automatic hematology machine, a full automatic biochemistry machine, and an immuno chemistry machine for cancer diagnostics.

The laboratory facilities to help cancer patients are not adequate in The Gambia. The project aims to alleviate the plight of cancer patients by providing free laboratory facilities for them for better diagnosis and treatment of their conditions and thus improve medical environment and service to the local people in The Gambia.

Through this cooperation, the Government of Japan continues to contribute to strengthening the health sector in Gambia in order to make it more efficient. Japan strongly supports developing countries in collaboration with the international community to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
