Deputies summon Fisheries minister

Jun 22, 2021, 2:42 PM

National Assembly Members (NAMs) yesterday summoned the minister for Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters to shed light on the causes of rising fish prices in the Gambian market.

Banjul South Lawmaker Fatoumatta Njai, who moved the motion, said that the skyrocketing of fish prices at the market is a concern to the citizens of The Gambia, and thus the minister responsible for that should come to the Assembly and explain the causes and outline solutions to the problem for the betterment of Gambians.

Section 77, subsections 4 of the 1997 Constitution states that the vice president or a minister shall, when requested by the National Assembly report to the National Assembly on any matter concerning a department or other business of government committed to his or her charge, and shall be entitled to attend and speak before the National Assembly whenever any bill or other matter concerning such department or business is being debated, Hon. Njai reminded the Assembly.
