Aviation Safety Week campaign underway

The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Monday commenced an aviation safety week campaign for the year 2023.

The aviation safety week programme was geared towards ensuring The Gambia International Airport is one of the safest airports in the world.  The campaign is organised by the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority in commemoration of the annual safety week.

The week-long capacity building programme was held at the Banjul International Airport Terminal which brought together participants from various departments such as the fire fighters and the aviation authorities among others. The theme of the programme is: ‘Promoting People Working behind the Scene for Aviation Safety’.

The campaign witnessed various presentations on safety measures.

Speaking at the occasion on behalf of the Gambia International Airlines (GIA) managing director, the senior station manager at the GIA, Omar Ceesay, said that safety is a concern for everybody.

He noted that safety starts on the ground, saying that those on the ground at the International Airport have done an enormous task ensuring safety is guaranteed at the Airport.

He said the Gambia Civil Aviation in collaboration with the Airport stakeholders’ safety week campaign is a big step towards achieving safety at the airport which is done collaboratively. He said that with a collaborative commitment, they should be able to achieve their goals on safety.

 He noted that the GIA has previously done a lot of safety awareness trainings with their teams on various categories, adding that the GIA is offering trainings for their professional members of staff.

Representing Mr. Fansu Bojang, the director general at the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, Madam Fatou Jallow said that the Banjul International Airport continues to work tirelessly to ensure a safety and operational activity. She assured of GCAA’s support in fulfilling their obligations at the Banjul International Airport.

In his remarks, Omar Jako, GIA executive member of the safety week committee, said the occasion also marks celebrating their heroes behind the scenes who ensure that there is always safety, whilst he assured the aviation perimeter to be a safety area.
