The meeting was held in recognition of the excellent bilateral relations between The Gambia and Senegal as two natural neighbours bound by deep historical, cultural and fraternal ties. The engagement served to further strengthen the longstanding cooperation between the two countries.
During discussions, the two Ambassadors reaffirmed the enduring historical, cultural, and political bonds uniting The Gambia and Senegal and underscored shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation. Tourism featured prominently in their exchanges, with both sides acknowledging the sector’s critical role in economic growth, foreign exchange earnings and job creation.
They explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration including joint promotional initiatives and cross border tourism packages aimed at boosting the competitiveness and visibility of both destinations within the sub region.
The Ambassadors also held extensive discussions on regional security developments in Sub Saharan Africa. They expressed concern over evolving transnational threats and emphasized the need for strengthened cooperation, intelligence sharing and coordinated responses. In this regard, they highlighted the pivotal role of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and stressed the importance of enhanced coordination among ECOWAS Ambassadors in addressing regional security challenges.
Additionally, the two sides discussed immigration related challenges affecting Gambian and Senegalese nationals in the United States. They exchanged views on the evolving immigration landscape, consular protection concerns, and the importance of safeguarding the rights and welfare of their citizens. Both Ambassadors underscored the need for closer collaboration between the two Missions including information sharing and coordinated engagement to better support diaspora communities and respond effectively to emerging migration issues.
