The delegation was welcomed by the Honorable Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, along with other colleague ministers.
As part of their duties, the Executive Directors conduct consultation missions to assess the effectiveness of the AfDB’s project portfolio and its strategic engagements within member countries. Their objective is to understand the development experiences and priorities of regional member countries. This time, the Executive Directors have selected the Republic of The Gambia for a five-day working visit to engage with His Excellency the President and the Finance Minister.
The EDs will continue their mission by meeting with key sectors including Agriculture, Infrastructure and Transport, Energy, Health, Fisheries, and Water Resources, as well as other relevant stakeholders. These meetings will facilitate policy discussions regarding development support and partnerships that align with the government's strategic priorities to achieve the overall national development objectives.
Additionally, the mission team will meet with development partners to discuss and strengthen donor partnerships and collaboration in support of the Government of The Gambia's development agenda, as outlined in the Refocused National Development Plan 2023-2027.
Part of the mission will include visits to key project sites financed by the African Development Bank. These projects include The Gambia Agriculture and Food Security Project, specifically the Sukuta Women Vegetable Garden, and the Trans-Gambia Corridor Bridge, currently known as the Senegambia Bridge. The main aim of these visits is to evaluate the progress of implementation and to gather feedback from beneficiaries regarding their concerns and challenges. This presents an opportunity for the EDs, who serve as the Bank's Board of Directors responsible for approving development projects, to observe the outcomes and impacts of the investments they endorse.
