Pw2 during his testimony before the Principal Magistrate Isatou Sallah Mbaye of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, said “the accused Mam Tut Wadda promised to delete my fingerprint from the system, citing works at the embassy after revealing to her that my visa application was once rejected by the U.S. Embassy in Banjul.”
Mam Tut Wadda is facing charges of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to Section 288 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Volume 3 Laws of the Gambia 2009, and the particulars revealed that the accused defrauded 14 individuals in the sum of D725, 000 on the pretext that she was going to secure them an American Visa.
“One of my friends in the person of Fansu Singateh introduced the accused to me. Singhateh told me that Mam Tut was working with the U.S. Embassy before I requested for her “dial” to communicate to her," Pw2 testified
“While speaking with the accused on phone, she introduced herself as Amie Njie working with the U.S. Embassy in Banjul, I then told her I had an appointment with the Embassy in September 2022 and my visa application was rejected. The accused said she could delete my fingerprint from the system and help me secure another visa as she works with the embassy and next to the consul,” Keita said.
He further revealed that he recommended Mam Tut's service to over 10 individuals who were seeking visa assistance and also advised her to be truthful and maintain honesty. However, he added that the appointments given to him by the accused for the first and second times had both failed.
“We never went to the embassy for the fingerprint and my D10, 000 was never refunded to me by the accused."
The case continues.
