15 retire at GRA

At least 15 personnel of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) have retired at a colourful ceremony held on Monday 13 January 2025 at Authority’s Headquarters in Banjul.

The retirees are: Bakary Sowe, a driver, Sunkary Badjie, senior driver, Nathaniel Johnson, senior security guard, Awa Njie, deputy commissioner Small and Medium Taxpayers, Amadou Bojang, data analyst, Amadou Jallow, cleaner, Alieu Baldeh, customs cadet guard, Yusupha B. Cham, customs manager, Jalamang Touray, customs cadet guard, Pa Dawda Loppy, driver, Momat S.M. Jobe, deputy commissioner, Customs Enforcement, Ramatou Harr Ceesay, deputy commissioner Small , Medium Taxpayers , Alhagie Koma, senior customs guard and Yassin Joof- Jow, a transport officer.

In his goodwill message to the retirees, Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe  described the day as day with mixed feelings. “We are happy that all of you are here in good health, but sad that you are leaving us not forever but leaving us from an office area.”

“One thing clear is that when we all start working together, one day it will end by retirement. Some want to work until sixty years but on the way some succumb to death,” he observed.

Darboe commended the retirees for taking their time working diligently and effectively to the best of their ability until this stage. He further commended the retirees for demonstrating high sense of commitment and dedication throughout working at GRA, saying the retirees had never been found wanting under any circumstance at the level of GRA.

He encouraged them to continue the good work and practice it anywhere they find themselves, adding that GRA is known for its team work. He underlined team spirit as one of the most important things institutions both nationally and internationally can rely on. He also hailed the entire GRA, both the retirees and non-retirees for their excellent performance in ensuring that GRA raise the flag to a higher height.

“We will continue to raise the bar high through best practices and excellent team work,” he emphasised, while advising the GRA staff, indicating that “sky is the limit.”

He assured retirees that the doors of GRA are always open, adding that their efforts and excellent reputation during their tenure at GRA have been recognised. He further described life as a journey, saying there is no need to rush as every civil servant must expect to go on retirement one day or the other.

For his part, deputy commissioner general and head of Domestic Taxes, Essa Jallow, commended the retirees for their selfless services rendered at GRA. He said the journey was not easy but the retirees have reached a stage which everybody is looking forward to in life.

He praised the retirees for their high sense of commitment and the professionalism they demonstrated during their tenure at GRA, while wishing them all the best of luck and good health in life.
