As Championship Set To Kickoff November 21
The Gambia Football Association (GFA) have released the fixtures of the annual Zonal Football Championship in a draw held at the GFA's Secretariat in Kanifing over the weekend.
The draw which was a repeat of last year, has pitted Bakau, Serrekunda West, Sukuta and Gunjur in the same group, while Banjul, Serrekunda East, Lamin and Brikama make up group B.
The opening match of the 2nd edition of Baby Muhammed Jammeh's perpetual zonal championship will see Bakau starting the defence of their title with a game against Gunjur who collected their 1st ever victory over the defending champions last year with a 2-1 score line when both sides meet on 21st of this month.
Sukuta and Serekunda West will also be involved in another zonal championship fixture when they entertain each other on the same day at the West-park, while the third game of the competition is also expected to see Serrekunda East locking horns with last year?s runners-up Banjul at the Serekunda East Mini Stadium on 22nd .
Lamin and Brikama will meet at the Box Bar Mini Stadium the same day, while the champions Bakau will go into the second group fixtures, hoping to collect all vital points against Sukuta whom they defeated last year when the two sides meet at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on 24th of this month.
Serrekunda East will travel to Western Region to face Brikama at the Box Bar Mini Stadium on 25th , while Lamin and Banjul are also expected to battle it out when they meet the same day
The final which will take place at the Independence Stadium will see the champions going home with an amount of D50,000, while the runners-up is also expected to go with an amount of D30,000.
The third place holder would collect D20,000.
A consolation prize of D10,000 would be awarded to each of the remaining teams.
Meanwhile, as part of the sponsorship package, there will be a preparatory cost of D10,000 for all the participating teams.
The sponsorship package of the tournament is pegged at a tune of D300,000.
