Youth Sent to Mile II for Theft

Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced one Alieu Touray to three months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing vegetables at Old Jeshwang Womens' Garden.

Principal Magistrate Wadda-Ceesay informed the court that the prosecution had furnished the court that the accused had a previous conviction at the Brikama Magistrates' Court for stealing.

According to her, stealing is becoming a menace in our society nowadays and the accused has shown no remorse for his action.

"These women gardeners work hard to make ends meet for their families," she remarked.

It would be recalled that the accused some time on the 11th May 2009 at Old Jeshwang Womens' Vegetable Garden, stole three bags of vegetables valued at D2, 050.

Inspector Mariam Fatty was the prosecuting officer.
