Youki Youth Football Tourney kicks off

The Department of Youth and Sports in partnership with the Banjul Breweries Ltd. has organised a one-week football tournament for Lower Basic School which is currently in session at the Seaview and Real de Banjul playing grounds respectively.

The thrilling and entertaining youth football championship which is been named Youki Youth tournament has so far recorded as many as 24 goals in eight (8) exciting matches ranging from both male and female categories.

The championship which kicked off on Tuesday saw Glory Baptist edging past Vital Preparatory by three (3) goals to one (1).

Alagie Mamour who failed to capitalise on the numerous scoring chances they created suffered the heaviest defeat of the tournament when Old Jeshwang took them to a 7-0 humiliation in the second game.

Bakau New Town Lower Basic School also collected the first vital 2 points following an emphatic 2-1 victory over Ndow's Comprehensive. The last game in the male category witnessed a fascinating encounter between Glory Baptist and Vital Preparatory which ended 1-0 in favour of Glory Baptist. Old Jeshwang registered an impressive 4-0 win over Alagie Mamour, while Bakau Newtown entertained Ndow's Comprehensive to a goalless draw.

The last game on Tuesday also saw Latrikunda Danso conceding a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Bakau Lower Basic School.

Speaking to reporters shortly after titanic encounters, the coordinator of the tournament Pa Suwareh Faye underscored the significance of the Youki Youth tournament noting that its aim to foster cordial relationship and unity among the participating schools. Pa Suwareh Faye who has dedicated all his life at the helm of affairs further seized the opportunity to thanked GFA Supremo Seedy Kinteh for providing footballs and trophies for the competition. He also thanked the president of Brikama Youths and Sports Committee Lamin King Colley for his contribution is providing the sponsorship for the leading goal scorer. The discipline and the most outstanding player's award. The winner at the end of the championship according to Pa Faye will collect ten crates of Youki soft drink and a trophy while runner up will go with 5 crates of Youki soft drink.
