Woman Remanded For Baby Dumping

A woman was on Tuesday the 18th August 2009 remanded in custody by Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbacke of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court for alleged concealment of birth of a child.

According to the particulars of the alleged offence, the accused Sira Gomez on the 1st August 2009, at Bakau in the Kanifing Municipality secretly delivered a child and disposed of it at the dumping site at Bakau New Town.

The presiding Magistrate Abdoulie Mbacke told the court that he was transferring the case to the Special Criminal Court at the High Court that has the jurisdiction to hear the case. He therefore remanded the accused in custody pending the transfer of the case to the Special Criminal Court Division of the High Court.

Inspector Mariama Fatty was the prosecuting officer.
