Magistrate Isatou Janneh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on 15 December 2015 convicted and sentenced one Tiana Fofana to a fine of D10,000 in default to serve six months in prison.

This followed her plead of guilty for threatening violence.

The convict, Tiana Fofana, was also charged with common assault, an allegation she denied.

In her judgment, Magistrate Janneh told the court that the court would temper justice with mercy, although the convict did not ask for it.

She said the convict was a first time offender, and sentenced her accordingly.

This followed the statement of the convict that she had nothing to say in mitigation.

The bill of indictment presented to the court by the police prosecutor, First Class 4443 Sowe, indicated that the convict, Tiana Fofana, unlawfully assaulted one Muhammed Sillah by holding his neck on 12 December 2015, at the Serrekunda Market in the Kanifing Municipality.

Prosecutors further stated that the convict, with intent to intimidate, insult or annoy Muhammed Sillah, threatened to stab him with a bottle on the same day and place.
