Woman convicted for assault

Magistrate Edward Singhateh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Ndey Kolley to a fine of D200 in default to serve two weeks in prison.

The facts of the case as narrated by the prosecuting officer, First Class 2259 Ceesay, stated that on 23 May 2011, one Kaddijatou Jallow was going to the market when she saw the convict, Ndey Kolley, standing on the roadside holding a stick.

He said the complainant, Jarra Kolley, was riding a bicycle coming from the market when she was hit with a stick on her head by the convict.

Officer Ceesay further narrated that the matter was reported to the police and the complainant was escorted to the Banjulinding Health Centre where she was treated and a medical certificate was issued to her.

He said the convict was subsequently arrested and taken to New Yundum Police Station.

The convict, Ndey Kolley, admitted the facts as narrated and begged the court for forgiveness, saying she is married with two children.
