The
second prosecution witness, Sisawo Dukureh, a Gambian based in the UK and who
also lives at Kanifing South, yesterday testified against Pa Kemo Sonko, who
was alleged to have obtained money by false pretence before Magistrate Joof of
the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.
Dukureh
told the court that he is a businessman and that he recognized the accused
through the Gambian number he used to communicate with him and his pictures
that were sent to him by his sister, Fatoumatta Dukureh.
He
recalled that in the month of November 2016 while in UK, his sister was looking
for a way to travel from The Gambia and she was introduced to the accused.
The sister gave him the accused’s number so
that he could speak to the accused personally, he said, adding that he spoke to
the accused through viber call on 002207545606.
He narrated what his sister told him and
further explained to the accused what intention he had in helping his sister.
He also asked the accused whether he was a
genuine person to help someone to travel and the accused told him that he could
make it possible.
According
to him, he made first payment of D10, 000 through his wife who was coming to
The Gambia for the process to start.
He
adduced that a total of D77, 000 was given to the accused for the transactions
including payments of air ticket, which the accused failed to complete.
He
said the accused was nowhere to be found on the day the sister was supposed to
travel from The Gambia, adding that he (the witness) told his sister to go to
the airport where he might probably find the accused.
He
said at the airport, his sister was told that her air ticket was not even paid
for.
Hearing
continues on 8 August 2017.
