The National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved West Coast Regional Sports Committee with immediate effect.
The dissolution of the West Coast Regional Sports committee was announced by the chairman of the National Sports Council, Lamin King Colley, at a press conference held yesterday at the Conference Hall of the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The committee was dissolved after the suspension of Brikama Youth and Sports Association executive members.
Speaking at the press conference, the chairman of the National Sports Council, Lamin King Colley, said the Council, acting on the National Sports Council Acts 2000, decided to dissolve the West Coast Regional Sports committee.
The committee is divided, which was why they decided to dissolve it and set up a normalization committee to run the affairs of sport in the region for two months, King Colley said.
Regional sports committees are under the supervision of the National Sports Council which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, he said.
Chairman King Colley further said the normalization committee is mandated to steer the affairs of sports in the region before the election of a new executive.
For his part, the executive director of the National Sports Council, Marcel Mendy, urged the people of Brikama to remain calm and wish the normalization committee all the best in their endeavour.
