The Brikama Magistrates' Court, presided over by the Principal Magistrate Basiru Mahoney last Thursday convicted and sentenced one Momodou Barry to a fine of D1000, in default to serve one month in prison.

He was also ordered to pay a compensation of D1, 500 to the Wellingara Police Station, in default to serve three months in prison for escaping from lawful custody.

In his plea of mitigation, the accused person begged the court to temper justice with mercy as, according to him, he is a young man who helps his mother.

The Prosecuting Officer, Sgt 553 Abdoulie Jammeh told the court that, the accused person escaped with a handcuff and up till now they could not recover the handcuff which, according to him, is a very important instrument which helps them in arresting any suspect.

He added that Wellingara CID Office is now without a handcuff.
