Baba
Galleh Jallow, National Assembly Member (NAM) for Sannementereng Constituency
has said that West Coast Region (WRC) should be demarcated into two regions.
Hon.
Jallow said the reason for this is because the “council is not serving the
interest of all those living within the region in terms of development.”
He
made these remarks last Monday during the adjournment debate.
He pointed out that the region has a
population of over a million people with majority of communities not benefiting
from any form of development from the council.
The Sannementereng lawmaker therefore called
on government through the Ministry of Lands and Local Government to demarcate
the region into two for the well-being of communities in the region.
“There are villages within West Coast Region
who have never benefited from a bag of cement development from the council,” he
said, adding these communities pay their taxes to the council regularly every
year without receiving any development from the council.
He
further said that; “tax payers should receive 60% of their taxes back in the
form of development.”
Hon. Jallow went on to highlight the poor road
condition linking Brufut and Madiana and urged government through the Ministry
of Transport, Works and Infrastructure to come to their aid and construct the
road for easy transportation of people and goods.
