Unique FC began their campaign with a hard-fought one-nil victory over Smiling Coast as the much talked about Bakau Nawettan got underway at the Bakau Mini Stadium on Tuesday.
The New Town side led a hard fought encounter and went home with a narrow one-nil win in a match that appeared to be disrupted by a heavy down pour of rain.
Both teams went into this crucial match with the aim of securing their first victory of the campaign but it was the rejuvenated Unique FC that proved a better side of the day as a result of their dominance in all sides of the field.
Unique FC trio Striker Foday Gassama, Luis Farakhan Danso and left back Ebrima Jarju alias [Daddy] who spent a lengthy spell on the sideline before making an unexpected recovery all went close to opening the score but their efforts were frustrated by Smiling Coast defence led by Former Steve Biko rocky defender Fabakary Jammeh.
Unique FM midfield trio Alagie Bah, Abdoulie Sohna and captain Alpha Omar Jallow all threatened to score from long range shots but their efforts proved futile in both intervals while Mustapha Suso and substitute Adama Krubally of smiling Coast both failed to capitalise on their side's best chances of a pulsating game.
Unique FM side headed by player coach Haruna Jammeh of division one giants Samger FC brought striker Babucarr Sohna in place of Fellow striker Foday Gassama which really paid dividend as he capitalised on his first touch on the ball to nod home his side's only goal of the game thanks to an unselfish lay-off by Luis Farakhan Danso at the edge of the Smiling Coast penalty area.
Smiling Coast formerly called [Zibra's] chance of a leveller was dealt with a hammer blow following the dismissal of Omar Bojang after receiving his second book able offence few minutes from time to dashed Zibra's hope of collecting their first win of the nawettan.
In a separate development, the President of Banda Bi Abdoulie Njie commonly known as [Pusty Njie] confirmed to Pointsport that the name of the team has been changed from Banda Bi to Kids with Talents Radio Station affectionately called[KWT] amidst speculation that there is controversy regarding the issue.
Mr Njie cleared the dust in a telephone interview with this reporter yesterday.
