The Gambia government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports has provided D3.5 million to the Gambia Under-20 team towards their participation in the CAF African Under-20 Youth Championship to be held in South Africa from 17 April to 1 May 2011, Pointsport can reveal.

Speaking in a brief interview yesterday with Pointsport, the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Alieu K. Jammeh, said the package includes air tickets, allowances, bonuses, camping expenses as well as the visas processing for both the players and the officials.

The development came barely three days after players of the U-20 had to protest bitterly regarding their match bonuses for throughout the intensive qualifying campaign en route to the event due to commence this weekend.

Since several months ago, the Darling Scorpions have intensified preparatory efforts ahead of the South Africa campaign looking set to do wonders at the campaign.

Jammeh pointed out that the Gambian team travelling to South Africa will comprise twenty-one players and nine officials.

The team was expected to leave the Gambia yesterday for South Africa via Dakar.
