Two Gambian athletes - Lamin Sanneh and Alhagie Bah - on 9 April 2012 returned to Banjul from participating in an International Marathon held in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Led by Coach Mustapha Gibba, the marathon was held on 6 April where over 250 participants from five countries took part.

The marathon was a 42km distance run and Lamin Sanneh came out 5th after completing the distance within 2.34 hours while Alhagie Bah snatched the 10th position in 2.35 hours.

Speaking to this reporter on Wednesday, both athletes said their journey to Mauritania was a good experience to them as they got to secure so much experience in participating in such an international marathon.

The athletes revealed the challenges they encountered, but with the help of their coach and their individual trainings, they were able to return home with good results.

However, the athletes are therefore calling for financial aid from the government, individuals and members of the private sector to overcome their financial constraints in order to achieve their goal.
