Two British nationals were yesterday convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5, 000 each in default to serve three months imprisonment by the magistrates' court in Bundung for unlawfully selling fake pounds sterling notes.
David Cullibang and one Roberts, who both pleaded guilty to the charge, were said to have sold two fake 20 pounds sterling notes to JB Finance Bureau.
The trial magistrate also awarded D1400 as compensation to JB Finance Bureau.
In passing judgment, the trial magistrate, Abdoulie Mbackeh, stated that the act was committed willfully.
He added that such malpractice should not be entertained in the society, noting that if fake money circulates, it could ruin the country's economy.
