Momodou Turo Darboe yesterday donated various items of protective gear to The Gambia Ports Authority. The donation, said to be first in the history of The Gambia Ports Authority, was done through his foundation, Vision Development Foundation, at his office in
The donated items included 150 helmets, gloves and dust masks respectively.
Speaking at the historic occasion, Mr. Momodou Turo Darboe said that it is his organisation's objective is to always complement government efforts in the realisation of its development dreams.
"It is in line with our organisation's objectives and a priority to always help the needy from all walks of life," he said.
"It is also our desire to give direct support to government institutions, communities and the general public, especially those who are loyal and partners in development," he added.
He revealed that it is not a new thing to his organisation, noting that for many years, every month or two, they contribute their quota towards nation building.
"We believe, through collective participation, we can easily build our nation," he remarked.
Mr. Darboe maintained that current government, under the leadership of President Jammeh, is doing tremendously in transforming the country into an enviable modern country, but added that it cannot do it by itself.
"Everyone should be ready to complement the government's efforts, especially as The Gambia is blessed with a development orientated leader, who always wishes the best for our country. For his part, Mr Ousman Jobe, director of operations at The Gambia Ports Authority, thanked Momodou Turo Darboe, whom he described as a very rare philanthropist and patriot.
He said that the donated items will go a long way in helping and securing the lives of the workers, during their work periods.
Demba Jammeh, president of The Gambia Maritime Union, also expressed similar sentiments.
