The
Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, in collaboration with the Imam Ratib of Banjul,
wishes to inform the public that the 1st day of Muharam, which is the first
month of the Islamic calendar, commenced on Sunday the 2nd of October 2016.
A
news release from the Supreme Islamic Council says the 10th October 2016 will
be the day of Tasuha‘a and Tuesday 11 October 2016 will be the day of Yawmul
Ashura locally know as Tamharit.
The
council, therefore, reminds Muslims of the importance of fasting on these two
days - the 9th and 10th day of Muharam - as it is stated by the Prophet.
The
council wishes the President Sheikh Professor Dr Alhagie Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh
Babili Mansa, his Government and the entire Muslim Ummah in The Gambia, a
blessed Muslim New Year.
