The winners of 2013 International Higher Education Scholarship Programme of International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) of Taiwan have been announced by the Embassy of ROC (Taiwan).
According to the embassy, this year there is a total of 16 Gambian students who will receive the scholarship including 10 master’s and 6 bachelor programmes.
The programmes, which provide the Gambian students the great opportunity of pursuing higher education, are sponsored by the Taiwan ICDF and promoted by the Embassy of ROC (Taiwan) in The Gambia every year.
This year, securing the scholarship was more competitive because there are more than 400 students who applied for it.
Notably, the Gambian winners still take the biggest part of the scholarship among all the African countries, the embassy says.
Meanwhile, all the 16 recipients yesterday attended a formal awarding ceremony at the Embassy of ROC (Taiwan) as well as received the acceptance letters from the ICDF through the ambassador.
When the new academic semester begins, they will leave for Taiwan between 1st and 3rd September and will be provided with air tickets, tuition and credit fees, insurance, housing and monthly allowances.
Moreover, The ROC Embassy will arrange a special Mandarin course for the scholarship winners at the Taiwan Culture Centre before their departure, the dispatch concludes.
