Trial of multiple criminal offences continues

The trial of multiple criminal offences involving eight accused persons continued recently at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Babucarr Secka.

Modou Sanyang, Alhagie Sanyang, Wuyeh Sanyang, Dembo Badjie, Bakary Badjie, Malang B. Jatta, Malang Badjie and Jerreh Badjie are standing trial on charges of conspiracy to commit felony, common assault, threatening violence and grievous bodily harm.

Testifying as the fifth prosecution witness, Ebrima Jammeh told the court that on 24 May 2009, the Jammeh Kunda family went to Madina Salam on land measurement.

He said that while they were measuring the land, he saw a group of people with sticks and cutlasses, who came and asked them to leave the said land; if not they would kill them.

Still testifying, he told the court that the accused persons told them that the said land belongs to them, as it was given to them by the then governor of the region, Sunkary Badjie, adding that the accused persons were insulting them.

He said Wuyeh Sanyang, the third accused, slapped Buba Jammeh, and Amadou Jatta was injured but he did not know who injured him.

According to him, the matter was reported to the Gunjur Police Station and the accused persons were subsequently arrested.

He made his statement to that effect, he said.

The case was then adjourned till 14 June 2011.
