Man jailed for willful damage to property and assault

Magistrate Drammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Omar Ceesay to one year, six months in prison on count one and two years, six months in prison on count two.

Ceesay was also ordered to compensate the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) with D150,000.

This followed the convict’s own plea of guilt of the charges of assault, causing actual bodily harm and willful damage to property.

According to the charge sheet on count one, on 1 May 2011, at Serekunda, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convicted person, Omar Ceesay, assaulted one Zacka M. Colley on his face by using a corn beef tin.

The charge sheet on count two stated that on the same day at Jeshwang, in the Kanifing Municipality, Ceesay damaged one laptop marked “Dell” valued at D92,557.75, the property of IEC.
