Trial of fisheries officials pushed to October

The case involving Amadou Saine and eight other ministry of Fisheries officials yesterday failed to proceed before Justice Abi of the Banjul High Court.

The reason was not known, but the court clerk declared the date for the next court sitting to be October 26.

The nine Fisheries officials are Amadou Saine, Nfamara Dampha, former director of fisheries, Famara Darboe, Dr Bamba Banja, the then permanent secretary, Kebba Konjira, Joseph Gadidon, Musa Jawla, Abdoulie Njie, and Momodou Njie.

They were earlier arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court on an eleven-count charge ranging from negligence of official duty, to economic crime and abuse of office.

In the last proceeding, the prosecution said they had filed a bill of indictment against the three out of the nine accused persons.

However, Justice Abi said the indictment was yet to be brought before him and asked the DPP, Barkun, to check at the registrar’s office, as it was a fresh matter, which could be reassigned to another court.
