Trial for disobedience adjourned

The criminal trial of Wandi Sonko, Lamin Jatta, Ansuma Kinteh and Sheriff Jatta, charged with disobedience to lawful order, failed to proceed on Monday at the Brikama Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Kemo Ceesay.

When the case was called, the police prosecutor, CPL 1 413 Sanyang, told the court that the case file was handed over to him recently and, therefore, he needed to familiarise himself with the case.

CPL 413 Sanyang also said his witnesses were not in court, that he needed to contact them to come to court, and applied for an adjournment.

Defence counsel Buba Jawo did not object to the prosecutor's application, but said the prosecutor should not say the case file was recently handed over to him, because he had spoken to the prosecutor several times concerning the case.

Subsequently, the case was adjourned till 9th November 2010.

According to the alleged offence, the accused persons in  April 2010, at Jabang village in the Kombo North district in West Coast Region, with intent to commit a felony wilfully and unlawfully disobeyed an injunction from the High Court of The Gambia signed by Justice Mama Fatima Singhateh on 1st February 2010.
