The newly-appointed Minister of Trade, Regional Integration and Employment, Abdul Salam Secka, has tender his resignation letter to the President, according to news monitored over GRTS TV.
"The President acting under the powers vested in him by the Constitution of The Gambia has accepted the resignation of Abdoul Salam Secka from his position as minister of Trade, Regional Integration and Employment with effect from 14th April 2011," the dispatch from the presidency added.
The letter written by Abdoul Salam Secka reads: "Your Excellency, I refer to your letter in which you acknowledged my acceptance letter appointing me as minister and assigning me to the portfolio of minister of Trade, Regional Integration and Employment.
"Your Excellency, it is with deep regret and sadness that I hereby tender my resignation from the post. This is purely for personal and professional reasons. I must thank you, Sir, for the noble opportunity you have provided me to serve you and this country, although for a short spell. I have enjoyed working for the ministry, and appreciate the support and enthusiasm extended to me during my tenure. I am at all times ready and available to answer Your Excellency's call for national duty. I wish your government all the best in your endeavours. Respectfully submitted for Your Excellency's consideration."
GRTS TV also announced that President Yahya Jammeh has re-appointed Abdou Kolley as minister of Trade, Regional Integration and Employment replacing Mr. Secka.
Mr Secka was appointed minister on 18th March 2011 replacing Mr Abdou Kolley as Minister of Trade, Regional Integration and Employment who was sacked along with Mr Yusupha Kah, Minister of Works, Construction and Infrastructure on the same day.
