As the Gambia Football Association 1st Division League enters its climax, the nation’s domestic league has unearthed and continues to see very tough and competitive fixtures with a few more matches to go.
The twelve-team league will enter week nineteen with Steve Biko FC taking on the Young Africans FC on Saturday, 9 July 2011 at the Independence Stadium.
Wallidan FC will meet Samger FC on the same day at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium, while Interior FC will lock horns with Bakau United at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium.
On Sunday 10 July 2011, at the Independence Stadium, Real De Banjul will clash with Africell FC.
At the side time at Brikama Mini-stadium, Brikama United will face the Gambia Armed Forces, while the Gambia Ports Authority will take on Gamtel FC at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.
Earlier on Wednesday, Africell defeated the Gambia Armed Forces by a goal to nil in the week eighteen fixtures at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.
Yankuba Jammeh scored the only goal of the game for Africell in the 11th minute of the game from a penalty spot to give his side all three points at the expense of the Gambia Armed Forces.
The Armed Forces were reduced to ten men in the 90th minute of the game when striker Emily Sambou was sent off after been shown a straight red card for deliberately fouling Yankuba Jammeh.
Africell have now collected 15 points in seventeen encounters with a game in hand while Armed Forces have collected 26 points in eighteen games.
Young Africans at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda held specialists Interior to a goalless draw the same Wednesday.
Young Africans have collected 19 points in eighteen games, while Interior have collected17 points in eighteen games.
Elsewhere, Bakau United were also held to a goalless draw by Academy boys Samger FC in the other week eighteen fixtures played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Bakau United now have 18 points in seventeen games with a game in hand, while Samger have collected 19 points in eighteen encounters.
