According
to information sent to The Point by the police public relations officer
Inspector Foday Conta, three young people have lost their lives after drowning
at sea in Banjul while on picnic.
The
three are Marian Loum, 29, Haddy Sowe, 19, and the third person said to be 17,
and all of them are residents of No 1 Brown Street, in Banjul.
According
to PRO Conta, the incident happened on Saturday 22 October when the three left
home for a picnic at the beach behind former Radio Syd in Banjul.
“Upon
their arrival, they started swimming along with John Colley, Marian Loum’s
husband, and godfather to the 17-year-old.
When
Colley came out, he noticed that his wife was calling for help and before he
could offer help, the three drowned,” PRO Conta said.
“However,
Marian was rescued alive but was later pronounced dead at the Edward Francis
Small Teaching Hospital and on the following day 23 October the other two
bodies were found.”
PRO
Conta reiterated the call of the office of the Inspector General of Police
urging the general public to always be careful when they go for picnics.
