Principal Magistrate Hilary Abeke of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court Monday cautioned three accused persons - Suwadi Camara, Ousman Sanyang and Babucarr Sabally - to maintain the peace for a period of 3 years.
The court also ordered the said accused persons to pay a compensation of D5,000 to the complainant for the loss of his phone during the incident at the court premises
It would be recalled that the accused persons were said to have assaulted one Sana Badjie at the court premises and were charged with contempt of court.
Delivering his judgement, the presiding Magistrate Abeke told the court that what the accused persons did was in the presence of everybody in the court.
He said to fight at the court or to assault someone in the court premises was contempt of court, and the accused persons were found guilty of the offence they had committed.
After the judgement, Suwadi Camara begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying he had a wife and kids and was the breadwinner of his family.
Ousman Sanyang also begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying he was the only son of his mother, a first-time offender and was a farmer.
Babucarr Sabally also begged the court, saying he was a farmer and had wife and children.
After their mitigation, the presiding magistrate warned and discharged them.
