As
2019/ 2020 winter tourist season gets underway, more flights are finding their
way to Destination Gambia. On Monday, Thomas Cook NE from Helsinki, Finland
arrived at the Banjul International Airport with 387 passengers on board.
Officials
of The Gambia Tourism Board as well as tour operators received the airbus 330
on arrival.
Speaking
to waiting journalists shortly after the landing of the aircraft, Adama Njie,
director of Marketing at The Gambia Tourism Board, welcomed the move and that
the surge in arrival numbers is a big plus not only for the GTBoard but for the
entire country.
Njie
explained that there are more flights heading to Banjul in the coming days,
saying Scandinavians are very big spenders.
“They
are not coming to the country just to enjoy the sunshine, but they also going
to spend”.
He
indicated that the numbers of flights landing are increasing by the day, so are
the arrival numbers within the short period of time, despite the collapse of
Thomas Cook UK.
Njie described Destination Gambia as the best
place to visit by any holidaymaker and that that’s why it is truly called the
Smiling Coast of Africa.
“We
have rich cultural diversity in the country and in terms of accommodation we
have very good accommodation and very reasonable for that matter”.
