The
Independent Electoral Commission has stated categorically clear that there is
no Coalition or Independent Coalition candidate, among those nominated to vie
for National Assembly seats.
This
clarification was prompted by the fact that certain candidates sponsored by
parties or Independent candidates “are presenting themselves to the electorate
as ‘Coalition candidates’.”
According
to what obtains with the Commission, the IEC statement noted, “there was no
candidate among the 239 candidates vying for the 53 constituencies, who has
been sponsored by a party known as the “Coalition or Independent Coalition
candidate”.
The
Independent Electoral Commission, therefore, warned all those candidates
involved in this act to desist from it or “risk getting their nomination
revoked”.
“As
campaign has already begun, the IEC is reminding all stakeholders to be
tolerant with each other so that we can have peaceful elections,” stated the
IEC.
