TAQWA mosque opens

Thousand of Muslims last Friday converged at Kanifing to witness the opening of a new mosque known as the TAQWA Mosque.

The mosque located near the Independence Stadium in Bakau was built by the Sheikh Mass Kah Islamic Foundation.

The official ceremony was graced by vice president Isatou Njie Saidy, cabinet ministers and other government officials. Also at the mosque inauguration were imams and Islamic scholars.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister of presidential affairs, who doubles as the secretary general and head of the civil service, Dr. Njogu Bah, thanked all those who came to witness the opening of the new mosque.

He hailed the Kah family for their commitment to the propagation of Islam in the country as manifested with the construction of the new mosque.

For his part, Dr. Omar Jah Snr, said the new mosque is built for all Muslims in the country. He prayed for Almighty Allah’s blessings for all those who worked tirelessly towards the successful construction of the mosque.

A renown Islamic scholar from Senegal, Sulayman Wahtab, thanked all and sundry for coming to witness the opening of the mosque. He urged Muslims to remain committed to the cause of Islam.

Speaking in an interview with this reporter at the mosque, Dr Omar Jah Jnr gave a brief history of Skeikh Mass Kah.

According to him, he was born in Senegal in 1827, and dedicated his entire life to the propagation of the Islamic faith.
