The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council wishes to inform the general public that Saturday 25th October 2014 was the first day of Moharam, the first month of the Muslim calendar.

The ninth and tenth day of Moharam will be on Sunday 2nd and Monday 3rd November 2014.

Therefore the council, with the consultation of the Imam Ratib of Banjul, wishes to announce that Sunday 2nd November will be the day of Tashura and Monday 3rd November will be Yamul Ashura locally called Tamxarit.

The council would like to remind the Muslim Umah about the importance of fasting on the two days.
