As part of the annual Taiwan Youth Ambassador programme, a group of six students led by Professor Shih Shen-Guan arrived in the country yesterday.
This year’s students are from the National Taiwan University of Technology.
The annual event is aimed at exposing the youth to the cultural values of The Gambia as well as to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries through cultural encounters.
The 2012 Taiwan Youth Ambassadors will today meet with the minister of Youth and Sports and officials of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.
While in the country, the students will hold a two-week workshop with 30 local students drawn from eight higher institutions of learning including the University of The Gambia and colleges.
It would be recalled that in July 2011, a delegation, headed by a professor from the National Taipei University of Technology, had a two-week cultural exchange visit to The Gambia.
Also in summer 2010, a seven-member delegation of youth ambassadors from the National Pintung University of Technology of Taiwan visited The Gambia for a cultural exchange programme with local youths.
Meanwhile, speaking ahead of their trip, the students expressed their joy of visiting The Gambia while hoping to interact with their peers in the country and learn more about The Gambia’s culture.
