Taiwan pumps USD156,986 in Gambia’s agriculture

Minister of Presidential Affairs, Secretary General and Head of Civil Service, Hon. Momodou Sabally, on behalf of the Government of The Gambia, last Wednesday received a sponsorship of US$156,986 from H.E. Samuel Chen, Ambassador of ROC (Taiwan), donated by the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The fund is meant to assist the Gambian government to procure the needed PTO Pumps and GPS system for tractors used to promote and enhance the agricultural development and prosperity of The Gambia.

In the remarks, H.E. Samuel Chen said he hopes to see that the Gambian farmers are capable of effectively using the tractors and related equipment to enhance The Gambia’s agricultural sector, especially in the provinces.

He also said they would ensure the bilateral relations between The Gambia and the ROC continues to go from strength to strength.

In receiving the donation on behalf of the Gambian Government, Hon. Momodou Sabally applauded Taiwan for the warm friendship and for playing the role of a development partner to The Gambia, especially in the agricultural sector.

Agriculture, he said, is the backbone of the Gambian economy, he said, adding that President Jammeh is dedicated to making The Gambia a food self-sufficient nation.

“President Jammeh has shown by example, the importance of agriculture,” he said.

Hon. Sabally then assured Taiwan through the Ambassador, of The Gambia’s firm ties of friendship and support.
