Feb 28, 2013, 9:23 AM

Over the weekend, The Gambia Taekwondo Association held its congress to elect a new executive that will take charge of the day-to-day running of the association for the next two years.

The congress was held at the Taekwondo main headquarters in New Jeshwang in the Kanifing Municipality.

Gambia taekwondo has faced many constraints over the years. The association last represented The Gambia in 2005in the Zone II championship in Mali; since then members have been facing many obstacles in running the affairs of the association, which has been entirely run by its able president Jose Goma March over the years.

In order to help the association to excel in both home and international competitions, on Saturday 23 February 2013 eight taekwondo clubs converged at the association’s main headquarters in Kanifing municipality to elect a new executive as the old executive’s term in office has expired.

The new committee in charge will be in office until the end of 2014 before another congress is held.

Jose Goma March, the president of the association, was unopposed at the congress, which means he will be in charge of the association till the end of 2014.

The rest were elected by the clubs that have voting right in the congress.
