Swedish philanthropists Hillevi Engbrant, Anders Berglund, Peter Gryfterheim, Anders Nylander, Joakim Pops and their Gambian counterpart Musa Cham recently donated 120 lamps and four solar batteries to Chamen Health Centre in Nianija, CRR, at a presentation held at the Department of Medical and Health Services in Banjul.
Speaking at the ceremony, Musa Cham, their Gambian counter-part, who is also a resident of Chamen said that the items worth a sum of D24, 000. He revealed that the need to support came during a visit with a friend Hillevi Engbrant, to the village, who acknowledged that the support to villagers is very crucial.
Also, speaking at the ceremony, the National Assembly Member for Nianija Constituency, Yaya Whan commended the donors for what he described as timely and benevolent, noting that it would be of great importance to the health centre.
He expressed optimism that the largesse would help their constituency and even those beyond, while expressing the need for more support to the health centre and nurses, in particular. Yaya Whan then urged other philanthropists to emulate the donors.
For his part, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Alhagi Omar Taal, applauded the donors for coming to the assistance of the health centre.
He thanked the National Assembly Member Yaya Whan for also facilitating the gesture, noting that it would be of great use to the beneficiaries, as government cannot do it alone.
