Former minister of Tourism and Culture, and of Trade, Mrs Susan Wafa-Ogoo, is making a comeback to cabinet, this time around as Minister of Foreign Affairs, the first woman to occupy that post.
Susan, who until her latest appointment, was Gambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, replaces Dr Momodou Tangara, who has now been redeployed to the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.
A news release from the presidency, issued late Thursday evening, said the appointment took place with immediate effect.
According to the release, President Yahya Jammeh was acting under the provisions of Section 71 (1) and 71 (3) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia.
It should be noted that Susan Wafa-Ogoo was in April 2008 appointed as Gambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, few weeks after she was named as Gambia’s High Commissioner to India.
Among the ministries yet to be filled are those of Information and Communication Infrastructure, and of Regional Administration, Lands and Traditional Rulers.
