The 2012 Super Nawettan final between Bakau and Brikama ended in fiasco on Saturday at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium due to a violent clash between the two teams.

The violence started when Brikama substitute striker Yankuba Jarjue netted the third goal for Brikama in the 88th minute of the game from a spectacular strike to put his side on the driving seat, a goal Bakau fans said should have been disallowed by the central referee, Papa Bakary Gassama.

After Brikama scored their third goal in the dying minute of the game, a Bakau fan threw himself onto the pitch and attacked the match officials.

The attacker was seriously manhandled and wounded by guard officers of the Police Intervention Unit (PIU).

This angered fans of Bakau, who invaded the pitch to avenge the damage caused their comrade. And since they could not contain the invasion, the PIU officers applied tear-gas to disperse the vengeful crowd.

The match started on a cool but tense tempo before Brikama opened the score through midfielder Sainey Sambou in the 38th minute from a clinical finish to give his side the lead.

Modou Lamin Sawo extended Brikama’s lead in the 57th minute of the game after slashing through Bakau’s defence line to make it 2-0 for Brikama.

Bakau fought back and levelled the score though Sanna Darboe and Sulayman Sanyang, alias R.9, in the 58th and 64th minutes of the game.

The trouble shooter came in the 88th minute when Yankuba Jarjue of Brikama netted the third goal to put his side on the lead.

This was a bitter pill for Bakau fans to swallow, hence they entered the pitch, abruptly stopped match, attacking and claiming that central referee Papa Bakary Gassama should have disallowed the goal they faulted.
