Super Nawettan draw held As champions Brikama to host Brufut in competition opener

The draw for the 2013 Skye Bank Gambia Limited-sponsored country’s community biggest football gala, fondly called the Super Nawettan zonal football competition, was held at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on Monday, as the reigning Super Nawettan champions Brikama will clash with Brufut in the opening game on December 1, 2013, at the Brikama Mini Stadium.

Eleven teams, namely reigning champions Brikama, Bakau, Banjul, Brufut, Serrekunda East Serrekunda West, Serrekunda Central, Sukuta, Manjai, Gunjur and Lamin will be vying for the country’s community biggest football fiesta competition.

Banjul, Bakau and Serrekunda East are the three household names in super nawettan zonal football competition and have won the competition more than any other zone since the inception of the competition back in the 90s.

Super nawettan zonal football competition attracts more spectators than the GFF national first and second division league competitions. It also produces quality, fascinating and exciting football.

Football fans across the country describe super nawettan zonal football competition as the best competition in the country, saying it is more competitive than the GFF national division one and two league competitions.

Mmany Gambian players plying their trade in Europe and MLS played Super Nawettan zonal football competition before their departure abroad.

The GFF divisional clubs coaches use the super nawettan zonal competition to scout for their respective teams and the Gambia national team coaches also use the super nawettan zonal football competition to scout formidable players for the various Gambia national teams ranging from U-17, to the U-20, U-23 and the senior national teams.

The draw for the 2013 Skye Bank Gambia Limited Super Nawettan Zonal football competition is as follows: Group A comprise, the reining champions Brikama, Brufut, Manjai, Sukuta, Gunjur and Serrekunda West, while group B consists of last year’s super nawettan runners-up Bakau, Banjul, Serrekunda East, Serrekunda Central and Lamin.
