The
2019 Africell-sponsored Super nawetan competition will begin on 1 November,
according to organisers of the country’s annual eminent community biggest
football fiesta.
This
year’s championship will bring together twenty major nawetan zones following
the inclusion of Kombo Central two, Farafenni and Kombo Coastal Road.
Bakau
will return to the super nawetan this year after serving their one year
suspension for vandalizing properties at the Father Gough Sports Complex in
Manjai Kunda following their 1-0 defeat to Serrekunda East in the 2017 super
nawetan quarterfinal.
The
tournament attracts more spectators, ambiance and revenue than the country’s
first and second division league matches.
Serrekunda
East clinched last year’s super nawetan title after beating Brikama on
penalties following their 1-1 draw in regulation time of the final played at
the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
