Social Security Housing and Finance Corporation Monday presented a cheque for D100, 000 to the National Organizing Committee of the forthcoming National Wrestling Championship scheduled to take place from 29 June to 1 July at the Serekunda West mini- Stadium.
The cheque was received by the secretary of the National Organizing Committee, Abdul Aziz Titao Mendy, Development Officer of the National Sports Council.
Prior to this amount donated by the SSHFC, the Taiwanese Embassy in The Gambia did also donate D10, 000 towards the event.
All the regions will send their representatives for the competition, with the flag to be named after the Gambian leader President Yahya Jammeh, who is the number one promoter of wrestling in the country.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports through the support of President Jammeh was able to sensitize all the regions to stage a regional wrestling championship in their respective regions through which the regions will select the best wrestlers to represent them in the forthcoming wrestling championship.
