School
of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (SMAHS) of the University of The Gambia,
in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has commenced training for
regional health workers on hand sanitizer production.
The
training is currently under way at the School of Medicine and Allied Health
Sciences’ multipurpose teaching laboratory center in Banjul.
Dr.
Mustapha Bittaye, Deputy Director of Health Services challenged the
participants to make the best use of the knowledge that they will gain from the
training so as to enable them also train their fellow health workers in their
respective district hospitals.
Dr.
Bittaye thanked the entire staff of the University of The Gambia for coming up
with such an initiative to support regional health workers in the fight against
COVID-19 in The Gambia.
Professor
Ousman Nyan, head of the University of The Gambia School of Medicine and Allied
Health Sciences, said the initiative would help Gambians during this trying
times, as not every Gambian can afford to buy hand sanitizer.
He
however challenged participants to stay focused and be ready to share what
they’ve learnt during the training with their colleagues.
